Youth Snow Sports

We have donated $500 to the Ebbetts Pass Youth Snow Sports Association and co-sponsored their initial fund raiser, a Warren Miller movie shown in Angels Camp and at Bear Valley the weekend of November 30. This is a new organization dedicated to involving more kids living along the Highway 4 corridor in Calaveras and Alpine Counties in the snow sports programs at Bear Valley and through local schools.

“We are fortunate to have such a solid program right in our backyard,” said Lance Machovsky, one of the organizers of the effort, “but out of nearly 150 kids enrolled in the program, just 15 are from the local area.”

The group plans to increase participation by promoting the program through the schools and raising money to make it more affordable for local families and to ensure that local kids who want to participate have the opportunity. Organizers believe that the program will create opportunities for local youth to be involved in
a healthy and wholesome pastime that helps build self-esteem and promotes positive influences in their lives.

“In Europe, where skiing is a way of life, the local villages support the involvement in winter sports activities,” said Machovsky. “We hope to foster a similar ethic in the Ebbetts Pass area so that our kids take advantage of this amazing resource.”
